Soshified Spotlight June 2012 Part 2: Riin

Soshified Spotlight June 2012 Part 2: Riin

ssfspotlightsmallbanner

Welcome again to the June 2012 edition of Soshified Spotlight. Just a reminder:

Just like every other month, we’re once again highlighting a regular member in Part 1, and a Soshified staff member in Part 2.

You have presumably read about chill4387, or Intan, in Part 1. In Part 2, we are featuring Riin, a super moderator here at Soshified. Riin keeps a very hectic schedule. In addition to her regular moderating duties at Soshified, she helps out with Soshi Subs, she is an avid gamer, and she has a full-time job working for an international media company. A member of Soshified almost since the beginning, she has seen a lot of changes that have happened both on the site and with the girls, and she shares some of that below.

———-

What is your first name?

One of the secrets I will never tell~

How did you find out about Soshified and why did you decide to join?

It’s a long story actually. It all started on my journey of wanting to learn Korean back in mid 2007. Prior to 2007, The only exposure I had with anything remotely Korean was through Youtube, Soompi and D-addicts. Back then there were only a couple of korean shows uploaded with English subs. Most of the subbed variety shows that I came across were X-man and cuts of idol groups related shows and Korean dramas. I was a huge fan of Korean dramas before I started watching variety shows and soon I ran out of things to watch. And since there were cuts of unsubbed shows online, why wait for subs when you can try to learn some Korean to understand them better, right?

So I decided to learn Korean by watching dramas and the limited subbed variety shows online to pick up words and phrases- which was a bad way to learn cause I later found out that the translations were from Chinese subs and some terms and meanings could be lost in translations when you translate from Korean to Chinese to English. But hey, it’s a start :|

From variety shows I was exposed to another side to the Korean entertainment- idol groups. I favoured Wonder Girls more. I think everyone did back then. I wouldn’t call myself a big Wonderful but I enjoyed their music until that fateful day where I stumbled on some cuts of Girls Go to School. I was hooked and wanted to know more about them. I fell in love with the group not because of the songs they sang or their concepts but because of their individual personalities.

Wanting to watch more of the show from the start till the end and download a copy, I googled and came to know of Ambition. I wasn’t active much, was just there to download vidoes to watch and pictures to look at. It wasn’t really later on that I heard of Soshified in late February of 2008. It was a fairly new website. I actually frequent the shoutbox (you don’t have to log in to use the shoutbox back then) on Soshified before I decided to officially join as a member.

How did you come up with your screen name?

It’s actually another way to spell a small part of my real name.

Where are you originally from, and where do you currently reside (city and country for both)?

Born and have been living on a tiny dot of an island all my life.

If we were visiting you where you live for one day, where would you take us? Why are these places so significant?

Take you guys around to eat? Or go shopping? LOL i don’t know. What else is there to do here that have not been mentioned in previous spotlights for cedge and doe. We live on the same sunny island D:

Tell us a little about your life. What do you do full time and in your free time?

I’m fortunate to have a job that I enjoy doing as it is related to one of my many interests in life. I work for an international media company that owns, manages and distributes TV and media rights for prestigious sports events around the world. Free time and weekends are for Soshified and family. If you see me glued to my cellphone or my ipad, I’m either trying to catch up on tweets, reading news article online, getting up to date with things posted in the SSF staff section or anything SNSD related (articles, tumblr, youtube cuts you name it).

Besides that, you can say that I’m a huge gamer. At last count, I own about 50 games for the xbox 360 console. Some of the games I’m currently playing on PC are CoH, Dota2, Left 4 dead and Dead Island and Shogun 2. Sometimes I still play classic games like Diablo 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2 and titles under the Command and Conquer franchise. I also like listening to music, I can’t go without my itouch and always have to turn on the music when I’m doing anything. Also I like reading, non fictions mostly, currently reading ‘Escape from Camp 14′ by Blaine Harden. So if any of you got a good book to recommend me, just drop me a comment or tweet me for those that have me on twitter!

You say your job relates to one of your many interests. I assume this means you like media and/or sports? Have you been able to attend any awesome events or gotten any cool experiences through your job?

Yes, I like both of them. I’ve always wanted to make a career in the media & entertainment industry even though I graduted with something unrelated to media. And I also enjoy sports, more specifically soccer. So it’s great that this job is a mix of the two.

Awesome events? Unfortunately no :( Unlike the sales people going off to some other country every few days, meeting interesting people, I’m more of a support staff and I do paperwork… lots of it. Nothing cool about it besides knowing about the various sporting events that certain countries have.

You have a lot of hobbies that can be time-consuming, especially with Soshified and gaming. How do you stay on top of these, especially with your hectic work life?

Time management and multi-tasking plays a huge part. I don’t game on weekdays because gaming can be pretty intense and rather than relaxing myself, I could end up frustrated. So I try to keep away from gaming as much as possible during the weekdays plus I get home late so there really isn’t much time for me to play a game. So I usually spend my nights catching up with my family and just relaxing myself by watching shows or just snuggling up in bed with my ipad reading up on stuff. Sometimes I try to do some work on Soshified too.

For people who are first meeting you (like most of us), how would you describe yourself?

It’s hard for me to warm up to people that I’ve just met but after a while when you get to know me, like really know me and I feel really comfortable with you, that’s when you see me open up and I get really weird and crazy and I troll on people. I’m loud too. Other than that I’m usually as cool as a cucumber and very quiet.

What are your interests outside of Girls' Generation?

Besides SNSD, I enjoy listening to the likes of 4men, Davichi and Korean indie bands like Lucid Fall, Standing egg, 10cm and Vodka Rain to name a few.

Other interests would be gaming, sports, reading, movies, shopping, eating and sleeping.

Who is your favorite member and why?

Good question. I used to question myself that a lot. It wasn’t until recently after really thinking about it, that I have to admit Jessica is my favourite member judging from how much I troll on her. Rather than have a bias list, I have this list called ‘Members that I love to troll on the most’ where Yuri and Taeyeon would both be in second place. Maknae would be placed the last cause she’s the cutest maknae ever and I can’t find anything wrong with her.

What is your favorite Girls' Generation song and MV and why?

My favourite song have got to be Complete. I don’t really have a favourite MV but Genie and Run Devil Run would be somewhat close to what you would call a favourite?

What is your favorite Girls' Generation moment and why?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijI7nO4wV0E&feature=youtu.be&t=3m6s (i think this is everyone’s favourite) and http://youtu.be/ijI7nO4wV0E?t=4m10s

So much to say and so little words to describe why I love these 2 moments.

How has Girls’ Generation impacted your life, in specific areas or even as a whole?

You know sometimes when you’re stuck in a rut and you don’t know what else to do to solve it? Yeah, when that happens, I ask myself, “What would SNSD do?” that kind.

So when you are in a rut and ask yourself, “What would SNSD do?”, what answers do you come up with? What kinds of ruts cause you to ask yourself this question?

Like in situations where I’m unsure on what to do and I feel like taking the easy way out. Where I’ll go, “What would SNSD do? Would they give up easily and take the easy way out or give their best in whatever they do?” Like a motivational self pep talk kind of thing.

What do you like most about Soshified, and why? Any section in particular you’re attracted to?

Having been with the site from almost the beginning, I can’t think of anything not to love about Soshified D:

I love every part of it (well except for the spams of course). A section that I usually frequent after the staff sections would be the fanfic section. I like reading and it felt like a natural transgression to pick up fanfic too, you know. There’s actually some really good writers over in our fanfic section that I follow. I’m really amazed at how big our fanfic section has grown. We used to only have less than 10 pages of fanfics, now there are tons of it.

Why do you think the fanfic section has grown so much over the years?

Well… looking at the many pages and the amount of fics? And also the quality of fics. Although there are lots of fics with generic plots, if you look hard enough, you’ll find really good fics amongst them.

Why did you decide to join the Soshified staff, and why the particular job you have now?

I thought it would be fun to help out around the forum. No regrets and it still is fun. When I just joined, it was a small forum, still in its infancy period where everybody knew each other. And I guess it helped that I was friends with a few people that set the foundation for Soshified, the ones that were the pioneer group of staff. Originally I wanted to apply to be a subber but when I was offered a spot for a moderator, I took up the offer. Fast forward to the present day, who would have thought that Soshified would grow this big? I sure didn’t. We have had a good run so far and the past 4 years of being a staff member have been insanely fun. We’ve lost staff members but we have also gained really good ones along the way that made a difference and it has been a good experience so far and I’m looking forward to more years with the team of people I work with everyday.

How did you get recruited as a moderator?

Not much to say. I was approached and offered the position after I expressed my interest in wanting to help out with the forum in any way.

What exactly do you do? Do you enjoy this position? What do you like about it?

I’m a Super moderator. Besides the usual pming of members about rule violations, creating and closing of threads, I do display names and log in names changes and deducting posts etc. I’m also in charge of hiring of new moderators and recently I’ve started an ongoing recruitment for a group of volunteers to help the moderators out in keeping the forums clean.

We have a couple of new addition to the moderator team (Kendelle, musicmint, pilona and WobBLeR) and a new group of volunteers that will be helping us out (KSarangHaeT, MasterAdept and Mawelli). Please welcome them and we seek your co-operation to help them do their job in keeping the forums clean and making sure that everyone’s stay on Soshified is an enjoyable experience. Thank you -bows-

Besides that, I do help out a fair bit with subbing as a timer too. I’ve worked on Invincible Youth Season 1 and some episodes for Season 2. Working on We Got Married right now and a couple of other shows that I can’t really remember the names. The reason why I branch out into subbing partly have to do with my wish to be one of the first few people to watch the latest show with pink subs and like I mentioned earlier of wanting to become a subber, so that’s another reason why I got into subbing too. But the bad part of the deal was that I always end up spazzing alone T_T *sadface*.

I used to do a lot more but due to having a hectic working life, I couldn’t continue being as active on Soshified like I was when I was a student :(

What is your favorite project that you’ve ever been involved in?

Favourite project, for moderators, we once had this treasure hunt game thingy where members had to look around the forum to find Bicky the Lobster. That was fun!

Subbing wise, I definitely have to say working on Invincible Youth Season 1 was the most memorable and one of my favourite project that I’ve been involved in. A show that I grew attached to from the very first episode and cried buckets while working on the last episode. Not even joking. *sigh* I ship Subyung because of that show :’)

Outside of subbing and moderating, I was in the organising team for the fan events for the 2011 December concert that took place in Singapore. Super duper stressful period of time and I got really sick in the middle of the planning process but it was fun. If I had to do it again, I don’t mind doing it because event planning have always been an interest that I want to explore further.

Any interesting experiences when interacting with members?

Too many to mention. I had lots of fun when I actually met up with fellow SSF members that I talk to online. It’s interesting to know a group of awesome people, some that are actually living halfway across the world, that shares the same interest as you and it’s great that we are able to keep in contact with each other through Soshified, Skype, Twitter and Whatsapp.

Thanks to Soshified, I’ve worked and grew close with some really weird but funny, smart and friendly people- grandma deer, Young Buck, hid, pubsquash, Holly, FrozenArctic, Icarus, Maltesers’ Minion, Ganookie, doe, cedge, Alvin & GPTX (my fellow troll chingus!) and Roythelamp to name a few.

I also met some really nice people because of the December concert- Melinda, Ade, Eugene, Greg, Shyan, Kaini, Sarah, Nigel, Billy, leddy and bbzidane (thanks for treating us!). And all the others that I didn’t mention… I forgot your names but I remember your faces sorry~~ >_<" Hi there! and thanks for making the December concert fun and for helping out with the collections and stuff.

And also through Soshified, I've gotten to know another group of members that shares another interest of mine. Gaming! Fatal Four heyy y'all~~ Mako, Pammie and Vi! and I would like to say hey to all the other people that I usually play a round of l4d versus with- Tommy, Dongie, Alena, Butt, Darien, Darren and Sicalegs!

I'm sorry for making some of you buy games so we can play together on steam T__T I SORRY. BUT IT'S FUN NO??

Girls' Generation – TTS Performs on 'Music Bank' Half-Year Special

ttsmubankhalfyearspecial

Last night, Girls’ Generation – TTS returned to KBS’s “Music Bank” with “Twinkle” for the music show’s half-year wrap-up special. Dressed in colorful outfits with shirts that showed their concept photos for “Twinkle”, Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun gave an exciting performance of their first song as a Girls’ Generation subunit. Despite having concluded promotions for “Twinkle”, the performance was as polished and powerful as ever, and the audience responded with loud fanchants to show their excitement.

“Twinkle” was one of the most successful songs in the first half of 2012, winning “Music Bank”‘s K-Chart three weeks in a row and twelve times overall across all music shows.

Right after Girls’ Generation – TTS’s performance, f(x), Girls’ Generation’s fellow idol group from SM Entertainment, was announced as the winner for this week’s K-Chart. Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun could be seen celebrating with the members of f(x) after they were announced as the winners and congratulated their juniors for the hard-earned victory. During the encore stage, f(x)’s Amber also pulled Seohyun to the front of stage and said, “It was Seohyun unnie’s birthday! Wish her a happy birthday!”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ♥SEOHYUN♥

Congratulations to Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun for her 22nd birthday. ^0^

Soshified Spotlight June 2012 Part 1: chill4387

Soshified Spotlight June 2012 Part 1: chill4387

ssfspotlightsmallbanner

Yeah, I know we’re late again. My bad.

But welcome to the June 2012 edition of Soshified Spotlight. Once again, for your own edification:

Just like every other month, we’re once again highlighting a regular member in Part 1, and a Soshified staff member in Part 2.

This month, we’re featuring chill4387 in Part 1 and Riin in Part 2. chill4387, or Intan, is of course a dedicated SONE who has been in the fandom since the very beginning. However, there’s more to her than meets the eye. She helps conduct research on soil erosion and conservation, she likes to collect model cars, and her personality fits both a male and a female.

———-

What is your first name?

My name is Intan. It means diamond in English.. (SNSD has a song called Diamond, right?)

What language does Intan come from? How did you get that name?

Intan is in Malay. My father used to study in Gainesville, Florida and he stayed in Diamond Village. So somehow to commemorate for that special place, my big sis was born in the U.S and he named her “Intan”. So all of his daughters first name are “Intan”.. including me and my two other younger sisters.

How did you find out about Soshified and why did you decide to join?

I found out about Soshified through a friend back in 2009, I think I was trying to get some updates about our girls. I found out Soshified is the only reliable source… So I joined because… Hmm… Well, I just felt like joining… I felt like home in Soshified. Haha…

How did you come up with your screen name?

chill4387… I was listening to Avril’s Complicated and I was born on March 4, 1987. So I combined the first word from the song and my birth date…

Where are you originally from, and where do you currently reside (city and country for both)?

I grew up in a northern state in Malaysia called Kedah and now I’m living in Pahang, Malaysia.

If we were visiting you where you live for one day, where would you take us? Why are these places so significant?

I happen to reside in the most beautiful, natural and amazing place in Malaysia. It’s called Cameron Highlands and I will take you guys go hiking on Mossy Forest and other neighbouring mountains to enjoy the fresh air, the natural view of temperate flowers, waterfalls and the breathtaking scenery of tea plantations. Throughout the year, lots of tourists come and visit Cameron Highlands, especially from the Europe.

MARDI Cameron Highlands

Tell us a little about your life. What do you do full time and in your free time?

I work as a research officer in an agricultural research institute in Malaysia. I like to call myself a soil scientist since I’m doing research on Soil Erosion and Conservation. And in my free time, I will do just about anything; hiking, exercising, eating, sleeping but most of the time, I’ll be in front of my laptop.. Surfing the net for SNSD's updates or k-pop. I’m a huge fan of both.

How did you get your job as a research officer? Did your field of study relate to your job?

How did I get my job? Hmm.. Through interview..? Haha.. They advertised for hiring research officers and I answer to that advertisement. I applied online and they called me for an interview. I went and got the job. Same for some other 99 applicants out of 14,000.. (hahaha.. really proud of myself).. I studied Agricultural Science but I major in Soil Conservation so yeah.. it is related and I love my job.. I love doing research because I love thinking soo much..

What is your research about?

I tend to think about future a lot. I seriously hate regret. That’s why whenever I want to do something, I will make sure that I will not regret it later.. Regret is.. something that I don’t now how to deal with.. haha..

My research is about finding ways to conserve the soil.. Make it forever fertile and always in good quality.. Haha.. Writing papers, educating people to care about the environment..

What's the most interesting thing about you and/or that has ever happened to you?

I like to think. I think all the time. But the problem is, my heart and my mind don’t walk on the same path. They don’t agree with each other. So people around me are having a really hard time figuring out my favorite foods, favorite drinks, favorite colors, favorite hang out spots and even my birthday gifts. And I don’t agree on the same thing all the time…

Could you explain how your heart and mind don’t walk on the same path, and how you don’t agree on the same thing? And how does thinking relate to this? What do you tend to think about?

Hmm.. let me put it this way.. most of the times, my heart says “don’t do it” but my mind has been calculating all the risks and possibilities of how things can’t go wrong if I do it.. So ‘they” don’t agree on a same thing most of the time. How I don’t agree on the same thing? Hmm.. When.. and how I think.. and people around me really makes it possible. That’s why I think a lot.. Because sometimes, results matter to me.. but for some other time, it’s the process towards making certain decision is all that matter to me.

For people who are first meeting you (like most of us), how would you describe yourself?

I’m a bit reserved at first but when I’m all warmed up, I talk non-stop, being extra-friendly and I’m good at making people feel comfortable around me.

Tell us some things that most people don't know about you that you think they should.

I’m a SONE… Proud SONE… So please don’t talk bad about the girls in front of me… LOL…

Is there anything big in your life that you're working on? (This can be related to school, career, hobbies, family, friends, etc.)

I’m preparing for my sister’s wedding at the end of this year… Sooo many things to do… It’s big for me since I only have one big sis… And I’m also working on few researches related to sustainable agriculture project in Malaysia…

What are your interests outside of Girls' Generation?

Music.. And movies… Anyway, I also collect model cars (yepp.. a 25 year-old female is collecting model cars).. Nothing in particular.. Just the one that caught my attention with its unique and rare design, I’ll add them into my collections..

How did you first become a fan of Girls' Generation?

Wow.. how? I was a long time ago, end of 2007 I think.. I can't remember well but I saw ITNW mv and fell in love with their fresh image. Most of girl groups which debut around the same time had this sexy, over-the-top concept but not SNSD.. So yeah.. I was a bit sceptic about having 9 girls in a same group but now I realize that only SNSD can pull it off..

Who is your favorite member and why?

I don’t have one favorite member.. ALL of them are my favorite. I tried to go from one to another but ended up liking them all more as a group.

What is your favorite Girls' Generation song and MV and why?

Hmm.. I like all of them.. hmm.. Right now it’s Say Yes.. I like the energy the put into the song..
Favorite MV? Hmm.. Time Machine.. The lyrics and the story line of the MV match.. So I like it..

What is your favorite Girls' Generation moment and why?

When they’re together.. I just like it.. I can't describe it in words but I know SONEs out there know exactly what I’m talking about.

How has Girls’ Generation impacted your life, in specific areas or even as a whole?

They are my role model.. Seriously.. Even thou I’m older than them but they know what they want to do at a very young age.. And they work really hard to achieve it. They never give up on their dreams.. I only decided to do what I’m doing right now during my Sophomore year in university.. so.. (tsk..)

What do you like most about Soshified, and why? Any section in particular you’re attracted to?

I like Soshified most because of its name.. SOSHIfied.. I describe me, us a fan.. Just that one word. I use to be a fan of Fanfics but since I started working, I only read news in portals and Soshi subs download..

Is there anything else about you that you would like to add?

I act like a lady but I think like a man.. And I'm not joking.. Haha

Could you explain how you act like a lady and think like a man? Does your penchant for model cars relate to this?

I look like a lady.. I dress like a lady.. I walk like a lady.. I eat like a lady.. Physically I am a lady but when I voice out my opinions, men tend to agree with me.. The way I solve problems, and how I avoid complicated solutions, makes me believe that I think like a man.. Women like window shopping, but I shop for what I want and head back home. And I don’t linger around the mall.. When I get what I want, I go back home. And.. women don’t like ‘solving’ IKEAs furniture puzzle . But I like it. I even have all the tools needed.. For DIY thingy.. Yes, I think.. Girls don’t usually collect model cars, right? Haha

Girls’ Generation’s music video for the Korean version of “The Boys” has reached 50 million views on YouTube. Released on October 18th last year, the music video has proven to be a hit with its powerful music and choreography, as well as the individualized outfits worn by each of the nine members. ”The Boys” was also Girls’ Generation’s first introduction to the American public with their television debut in January, where they performed the song on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Live! with Kelly”.

“The Boys” is now the fourth Girls’ Generation music video to surpass 50 million views on YouTube. “Oh!” is at 52 million, the dance version of “MR. TAXI” at 55 million, and “Gee” tops the list with 78 million views as the most viewed K-Pop video on YouTube.

Girls’ Generation is beginning to promote their latest single, “PAPARAZZI”, which has just been released in Japan. Congratulations to Girls’ Generation on their latest milestone.

On June 28th, Girls’ Generation – TTS won the “Trendy Music” category at the Mnet 20′s Choice Awards. Girls’ Generation – TTS was also first place in the category with votes from fans, winning 27.2% of the poll.

The award show began with a blue carpet event in which Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun stunned photographers, reporters, and those watching the show worldwide through YouTube with their elegant fashion. Taeyeon and Tiffany were dressed in beautiful dresses while Seohyun wore a colorful jumpsuit. More information on Tiffany and Seohyun’s outfits can be found in Soshified Styling, and additional photos from the blue carpet event can be found in Soshified’s Photos Section.

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun were also shown in a “party” event specially recorded for the award show. They could be seen playing with the camera and balloons, jumping on a bed, eating food, and looking through clothes. The three members also gave Girls’ Generation’s signature phrase, “Right now, it’s Girls’ Generation!”

After a special dance introduction of “OMG”, Girls’ Generation – TTS performed “Twinkle” while dressed in black and white outfits, delivering another fun and exciting performance of their first title track. Tiffany also took the chance to wish Seohyun a happy birthday during the song.

Finally, Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun later went on-stage to receive the award for “Trendy Music” and gave their acceptance speech.

The Extraordinary Maknae: A Portrait of Seohyun for Her 21st (22nd) Birthday

The Extraordinary Maknae: A Portrait of Seohyun for Her 21st (22nd) Birthday

seohyunbday1

“I think the best deed you can do for your parents is to become a child that your parents can be proud of.”

As another anniversary of Girls' Generation approaches, fans again begin to reflect on how much things have changed in Girls’ Generation’s time together as a group. From performances in high school auditoriums to sold-out concerts in front of tens of thousands overseas, from acting out makeup advertisements in "Hello Baby" to advertising for Dior in 2011, and from their debut with "Into the New World" to being recognized all over the globe, Girls' Generation has come a long way since its rookie girl group days. And yet, as much as things have changed, some things have stayed the same. The members of Girls' Generation are still humble, hard-working, and appreciative of their fans, Sooyoung and Yoona still love to eat, Taeyeon still cannot reach the top shelf, and Seohyun is still the same slightly strange, slightly quirky, and much beloved maknae.

“I believe in the hope that Santa Claus brings.” (When asked if she believes in Santa Claus)

When Girls' Generation first debuted in 2007, Seohyun quickly cemented her status as one of the most unique idols in Korean pop. She valued reading and intelligence, and wanted to continue going to school and to be known as an entertainer who had a brain and could think. She was more interested in a fictional pirate and Keroro than in male idols or drama leads, and chose to dub for the animated show with Taeyeon and Tiffany in her episode in Girls' Generation's MTV series. She loved to eat gogumas to the point where her skin would change color, and while using honorifics despite knowing them for years, told her unnies they would die by eating fast food. Most of all, Seohyun was respectful, mature, and wise beyond her years: the maknae of Girls' Generation only in age.

“The one who wins at the end is a person who is good-hearted.”

Years later, Seohyun is still all of the above, but has grown into so much more as well.  She continues her education, attending college whenever possible, and in every interview names a new book she is currently reading. Though she now has begun to talk with excitement about an actual person of the opposite sex instead of Jack Sparrow or an animated green frog, that person is Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, instead of a popular actor or idol. She still loves sweet potatoes, using them to rate Jung Yonghwa as a husband in "We Got Married", and is unable to drop her honorifics even when a variety show calls for it. Finally, Seohyun is more courteous and intelligent than ever, which is perhaps best seen when she, Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Yuri recently appeared on "Big Brothers" and were asked questions such as "What is the relationship between glaciers at the North Pole melting and your life?" Despite the difficult questions, Seohyun respectfully responds as only she can with answers as deep as the ocean, eventually prompting one of the show's hosts to say "She's a very unusual maknae."

“I think that, as the glaciers melt more and more, I need to put more effort into living, because that means my life is getting shorter. So, I think that I would try to do things that are more valuable.”

Of course, Seohyun knows just how unusual she can seem, having even once said to Yonghwa, "I'm different from ordinary people." However, Seohyun's strange personality is what makes her so engaging and endearing.  Her uptight lifestyle at first appears to be strict, but she means the best for those around her, such as when telling Kim Jongkook in "Running Man", the producer of "Star Life Theater", and even SONEs at a fanmeet to fasten their seatbelts. Her love for sweet potatoes and dislike for fast food can make it difficult for her unnies to eat the foods they like, but are a part of how she takes care of them as much as they take care of her. She spends her free time in school rather than on vacation and resting, but her devotion to her studies makes her an idol in the truest sense of the word. Seohyun is as different as she was nearly five years ago, but it is her different personality that makes her more beloved and admired than ever.

“I truly.. have nothing but gratitude for my unnies. I’m just so thankful and.. I really can’t say anything other than just thank you.”

Seohyun has also grown in many ways as well, just as all the members of Girls' Generation have after having gone through several lifetimes' worth of experiences in their time as idols. Fans have watched as Seohyun transformed from a teenager at 16 to a beautiful lady at 21, and at an age where many are still studying, Seohyun has spoken with the Secretary General of the United Nations, met the First Lady of Korea, received a "great job" from Bill Murray, been married and divorced, performed alone in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and on top of it all, attends school. During her time as a member of Girls' Generation, Seohyun has become a college student, a spokesperson, a model, a singer, a voice-actor, and a beginning guitarist. She works to master language after language and is considering adding acting to her already lengthy list of talents. Most recently, she became a member of Girls' Generation's first subunit, Girls' Generation – TTS, where she learned to enjoy the moments she stands on stage rather than focusing on her mistakes, such as when she hits Taeyeon with her elbow. Seohyun continues to grow as an artist and as a person every day, and with each experience she takes something away that makes her wiser than before.

“They say that old couples lose their feelings after a long time. But, I believe that they always are wanting to have that excitement and nervousness. Even as you grow older, I don't think you ever want to lose something that precious.”

Seohyun was right when she told Yonghwa that she wasn't ordinary, because Seohyun is extraordinary. She is an extraordinary idol, who sang a children's song for her audition, and an extraordinary person, who is an inspiration to others. A role model who values education, donates blood, is honest, and takes care of herself and those around her, Seohyun is the rare idol who would offer her fans sweet potatoes after learning they hadn't eaten breakfast. She is an only child who has found eight sisters who tease her, annoy her, and love her to bits. She is the brilliant, dedicated, kind-hearted, and extraordinary maknae of Girls' Generation, and she has only just turned 21 years old. We wish Seohyun a very happy birthday.

“The love from our fans is 'cozy' and 'unconditional'. If a single person was truly on my side in this lifetime, I think that life was a successful one. And so, I think we are living a very lucky life.”

June 2012 Writers’ Podcast

June 2012 Writers' Podcast

gS6yd

Download our podcast and listen on the go! (Files can be joined via HJ-Split)

Hello listeners, guess who? It's Michelle, a.k.a. DJ Giggles, and I'm back with Soshified's first summer podcast. It's been half a year since monthly Writers' Podcasts have been released, and all the positive reactions we receive from our listeners is what makes us work harder to bring you better podcasts every month.

Summer is fast approaching and what better way to celebrate than with another Writers' podcast! While enjoying the good weather, why not put on some headphones and give this June Podcast a listen. A little longer than any other podcast released, our June edition is packed with memories of an unforgettable weekend, including concert fan accounts, and tidbits regarding Girls' Generation's newest song release.

For people who have listened to our podcasts in the past, you guys know the drill. However, to all the new listeners who are just tuning in, fun times are simply a click away! All you have to do is press the play button under the pink banner then sit back and enjoy! In this podcast, please welcome back three writers who have recently returned from sunny California after an amazing weekend: Jon (MoonSoshi9), Michael (michaelroni) and Dave (SNSDave). We will also be featuring the friendly voice of Seraph (SeraphKY) who will be most helpful during our discussions about Girls' Generation's latest Japanese promotions. Without further ado, allow me to give a brief overview of the June 2012 Writers' podcast.

In this first edition of summer podcast, listen carefully as our three SMTowners recap and relive their unforgettable concert weekend. Follow them as they greet Girls' Generation at the airport, party it up with fellow SONEs, and fanboy at the top of their lungs during yet another successful SMTown concert. The fun doesn't stop there though. Keep listening as SMTown comes to an end, and everyone scrambles to Northern California in order to attend MBC’s “Korean Music Wave in Google” the following evening. From car rides and a sleepy Jon to a lineup that could stretch along China, listen to Michael, Jon and Dave as they recount Girls' Generation's mesmerizing performances and rave about our favorite MCs, Taeyeon and Tiffany. In the last segment of this podcast, we will be discussing about everything related to Girls' Generation's fourth Japanese single, “Paparazzi”. From why we love the song, to the sheer complexity of their choreography, we'll be covering everything in detail and fangirling along the way. There will even be a special section dedicated to outfits as we attempt to analyze the new fashion trend that seems to be emerging. Could Girls' Generation have made pink rubber gloves the hottest item to own this summer? And what was that about a zombie music video with horse masks?! Listen until the end to get all the facts!

As the “Paparazzi” segment comes to an end, regular listeners may have realized that there was no debate in this podcast. Unfortunately, due to the length of the concert recaps, a debate would have made the podcast just a tad too long. For listeners who were looking forward to a debate, fear not, we promise it will be back in the July edition. Please look forward to it!

That wraps up our June 2012 Writers' podcast. Thank you to all the writers for participating and sharing your wonderful concert weekend with all listeners! Don't forget, if you haven't listened to our previous podcasts, please click on the link below. We look forward to being back again next month!

Korea Yakult Releases New Girls’ Generation ‘LOOK’ CFs

Korea Yakult Releases New Girls' Generation 'LOOK' CFs

lookyakult1

One of Girls’ Generation’s latest endorsement deals is with Korea Yakult. In the spirit of the coming summer season, during the first week of June the company began revealing videos of each member promoting Yakult’s “LOOK” diet drink. Every girl has something slightly different to say about the product, so check out all the videos and their descriptions below:

Taeyeon starts by asking the viewers if they know that constant management is essential to dieting, which is the reason why “LOOK” is a good choice for a day to day diet routine. She also advises that some exercise helps improve the diet. At the end of the video, Taeyeon kindly asks viewers to experience “LOOK” for themselves.

Jessica observes that with summer quickly approaching, dieting season has begun. She encourages viewers to drink “LOOK” to help meet their diet goals.

In this CF, Sunny sympathizes with viewers, acknowledging that dieting can be difficult. But she encourages them to continue, saying that drinking “LOOK” once every day, along with exercising to fun music, will make the entire process quicker and less monotonous.

Tiffany starts by asking if viewers will be prepared when summer arrives. If they’re not, then “LOOK” is the way to go: it’s easy to get and easy to drink as well.

Throughout the video, Hyoyeon offers several tips for dieting. The first piece of advice she offers is to take pictures of your body while you are on a diet, which helps with keeping track of your progress and boosts motivation. She also advises that going out on weekends with family or friends, and even taking short walks helps with dieting. However, Hyoyeon says that the most important thing is to eat three meals a day and to make sure they’re balanced meals, and to not over eat. Hyoyeon ends the video by encouraging everyone to try hard, and that they can achieve a balanced and beautiful body.

Yuri cheers viewers on, telling them that despite all the hardships that come with getting in shape for the summer, the final result will be worth it. So don’t give up: by working out even a little bit everyday, a more beautiful self will begin to emerge.

Sooyoung, along with other Girls’ Generation members, is often asked how she keeps her figure with such a packed schedule. For her, drinking “LOOK” everyday along with exercising and eating well are all crucial steps to keeping her body healthy and slim.

Yoona spends some time discussing the ingredients of “LOOK”, which help suppress the intake of trans fats. She also explains how the drink can be delivered to the viewers.

Seohyun informs viewers that “LOOK” is promoting a twelve-week diet program. During that time period, participants may also receive support messages from Girls’ Generation. She encourages viewers who are curious about how much can change in twelve weeks to try the “LOOK” diet.

Hyoyeon Wins First Place on ‘My Story’ Episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars II’

Hyoyeon Wins First Place on 'My Story' Episode of 'Dancing with the Stars II'

hyoyeonmystorydwts

On July 22nd, Hyoyeon and her partner Kim Hyungsuk won first place on “Dancing with the Stars II”, on an episode which showed six teams performing live for the seventh time. The mission for the day was “My Story”, in which the contestants expressed their life stories in dancing.

On that day, Hyoyeon visited the SM Entertainment practice room thinking about her seven years as a trainee and expressed gratitude towards her parents for looking out for her. She thanked them by saying, “I wasn’t sure if I was a good dancer, but my father discovered my talent and suggested I become a singer.”

Furthermore, when she was asked what Girls’ Generation means to her, she replied with a big smile, “Girls’ Generation isn’t like a treasure to me, but a ‘miracle’. I’m still amazed that I’m part of Girls’ Generation.”

However, Hyoyeon also has a lot of worries because there are nine members. When she was asked what are some things that burden her by being part of Girls’ Generation, she replied, “How I can be recognized. It’s hard to have the name ‘Hyoyeon’ publicized in Girls’ Generation.”

She showed more willpower by saying, “I’m glad I can get recognized through ‘Dancing with the Stars II’. I’ll work harder.”

This episode also featured Hyoyeon’s audition clip, in which she showed powerful locking dance moves in her childhood, along with clips of senior artists talking about “Dancing Queen Hyoyeon”.

When Shinhwa’s Lee Minwoo was asked in an interview which girl group he looked upon the most, he replied, “I’m a Girls’ Generation fan, and I always had an interest in Hyoyeon because she danced so well, thinking she could be the next BoA. I’m glad she accomplished her dream.”

Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, who Hyoyeon shared her trainee days with, said, “Hyoyeon danced so well among 100 trainees and stood out the most. I also went to Hyoyeon to learn to dance.”

Unfortunately, Hyoyeon was unable to perform live on “Dancing with the Stars II” due to promotions for “PAPARAZZI” in Japan, but won first place with a pre-recorded segment which showed a combination of her powerful locking and the cha-cha-cha. The Kim Kayoung and Kim Kangsan team sadly was eliminated.
