[05.30.11] Fans Wish Yoona a Happy Birthday

Girls' Generation's Yoona's fans celebrate her birthday. Two fancafes, "CISTUS" and "Smile Yoona", celebrated Yoona's 22nd birthday by collaborating to put an ad in today's edition of a Korean newspaper.

When Girls' Generation performs on stage, Yoona is usually in the middle, earning her the names "Center Yoona" and "Girls' Generation's Face". In the ad, the fans wrote "Your eyes are similar, your neck is long and slender," comparing Yoona to a deer, another nickname that fans have called her.

Last Saturday on the 28th, "CISTUS" and "Smile Yoona" members volunteered at the Chungbook branch for the Children's Foundation, doing outdoor activities with the disabled people. "CISTUS" has also been donating under Yoona's name on a regular basis.

Donations and volunteer activities by Girls' Generation's fancafes have occurred regularly in celebration of each member's birthday. The fans have moved on from the first level of fandom of simply going wild for their idols. They are taking the lead in a second level of the fandom by raising the status of their idols through activites contributing to society.

[05.26.11] Girls' Generation Claim Top 3 Spots on Gaon Album Chart

Posted Image
Even with Japanese promotions placed as their main priority at the moment, Girls' Generation has still managed to attain the top 3 spots on the Gaon Album Chart.

Girls' Generation's Japanese singles (licensed in Korea) are proving to be doing exceptionally well in their home country. The singles "MR. TAXI/Run Devil Run", "Genie" and "Gee" placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively even though the Japanese versions of the songs were not promoted in Korea.

This proves that the "SNSD Effect" is still going strong and many are showing their continuous support for the girl group by buying their physical albums. Additionally, their "Into The New World (1st Asia Tour Concert Live Album)" was placed at 37th.

The Gaon Album Chart takes into account the physical sales of albums and singles in Korea. It is run by the Korea Music Content Industry Association and sponsored by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

[05.26.11] Yoona Recommends Handkerchiefs Instead of Tissues

Girls' Generation's Yoona is currently modeling for natural cosmetics brand Innisfree and is working on a concept called "Yoona's Jeju Handkerchief". This is part of Innisfree's Eco Handkerchief campaign.

Following up last year's activities, this is the second Eco Handkerchief campaign. Yoona admitted her love for Jeju afterwards, "Through this campaign, I unknowingly fell in love with Jeju Island's beauty. It's so clean and beautiful that I felt really proud of my country, especially when looking at other places while performing overseas."

Actions speak louder than words. Regarding the campaign, Yoona commented, "I'll start of this campaign by using handkerchiefs instead of tissues. I hope that everybody can join and participate in this campaign so we can keep our nature clean and beautiful."

Throughout June, Innisfree customers who spend more than 10,000 won will receive Eco handkerchiefs autographed by Yoona.

Innisfree's best products "The Green Tea Seed Serum" and "Green Tea Mineral Mist" will be released as limited special editions along with the Eco handkerchiefs that hold Yoona's kind heart.

The limited edition "The Green Tea Seed Serum" will be available for purchase as a 160 ml bottle, containing double the amount compared to the original 80 ml.

As of June 1, 10% of the sales from the limited edition items will be donated for Jeju Olle Road. Purchasing the items alone would be healthy for the customers' skin and will also help clearing up the earth's surface by decreasing the amount of trash.

[05.25.11] Girls' Generation's New CM is Cute and Cool Part 2

Posted Image

It was revealed that Korea's popular "beautiful legged" girl group, Girls' Generation, was decided to be the models for Lipton's tea CMs and appear in the new CM on May 24th. This is Girls' Generation's 2nd time to appear in a Japanese CM.

The new CMs are for "Lipton Carton Box 500ml" "Sing!!! DANCE! Lipton!" version (15 sec. and 30 sec.) and "Lipton EXTRA SHOT" "Tea Stage" version (15 sec. and 30 sec.). As an artist who can universally express two different views of "cute" and "cool," have top grade performance, and be popular across all generations, it was decided that Girls' Generation would match the concept of both products and do both CMs.

For the "Sing!!!~" version, all nine members were dressed in 9 colorful clothes to match the image of the product package and appeared on stage with their original Japanese song playing, "MR. TAXI" (released 04/27). With lively dancing, they appealed to the product's fresh taste. On the other hand, for the "Tea Stage" version, they appeared on stage wearing pure white clothing to give an image of milk in the world of crimson color of strong black tea. Playing a song off their 1st album, "Let It Rain," (06/01 release), they showed off their beautiful legs wearing short shorts and presented the product with a mature "cool" charm.

With only one rehearsal for the filming, all the members were in synch and there were hardly any NG (no good) scenes. Furthermore, Girls' Generation, who drank both products from before, also drank them during the filming.

The new CM will start to air from 05/27. Also, for the "Lipton Carton Box 500ml," starting from 06/07, there will be a "Lipton Dream Factory Campaign" and a total of 30,000 people can win portable speakers, original t-shirts, and more. Additionally, for a limited time from the week of 06/20, there will be Girls' Generation printed packaging.

[05.23.11] Comparing Taeyeon and Sooyoung's Legs

Posted Image

It is a well-known fact that Sooyoung is the tallest member in Girls' Generation and Taeyeon is one of the shortest. This difference in height may be significantly due to one thing.

Recently, a comparison of leg lengths between Sooyoung and Taeyeon has become a hot topic. A photograph of the two girls in similar positions has been circulating around the internet. The girls are sitting sideways on a chair, allowing people to notice the difference in the lengths of the girls' legs. It has even been said that the fact that one of Sooyoung's legs is not completely in the frame could be embarassing for Taeyeon.

Sooyoung's long legs have been known for a long time. On a "Radio Star" segment on MBC's "Golden Fishery" in February of 2009, Sooyoung even introduced herself by saying, "I'm in charge of leg length in Girls' Generation."

Fans are showing a variety of responses to the picture showing the differences in leg length between Girls' Generation's Taeyeon and Sooyoung, saying comments such as, "It's not that Taeyeon's legs are short, but that Sooyoung's legs are really long", "Sooyoung gives off a mature feel", "Although Taeyeon's legs are shorter than Sooyoung's, it's okay, because she's good at singing and because she's cute."

More than 10,000 albums have been sold based on Hanteo's chart alone. "MR. TAXI" is a popular song as well, the girls recently attended a festival at Hanyang University, and encouraged the crowd to sing a line of the song with them.

Furthermore, even though Girls' Generation's "Gee" Japan was promoted last year, the song is still receiving love from fans, and was certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for both the Chaku-Uta Full and Chaku-Uta Short.

We are now also integrating a new category that will be placed at the end of every 'SoShi Wrap'. Anyone can participate as long as you're a fan and you're up for some creativity. Send us a picture (to tip@soshified.com) of what you think is the best SONE photograph, and we might just use it to feature in this category. All pictures must be submitted within the week so if you sent us a picture last week, it doesn't count! Time to use your thinking caps and bring your best camera out for a walk. Good luck, and have fun!

For this week, we decided to use the above picture as an example. It's Miikee_Snsd from Mexico, showing off a car with a Girls' Generation theme. It's so much easier to spread the Global Generation love that way!

[05.19.11] Girls' Generation Spotted at English Village

Just two days after their much talked about performance at Hanyang University, members of Girls' Generation were spotted at an English Village in South Korea earlier today. Pictures of Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun quickly surfaced, and the girls were found dressed in the same yellow outfits they wore for their "MR. TAXI" music video.

SHINee's Key was also found alongside the girls in one the pictures. Though the purpose of their visit to the English Village is still unclear, many are already waiting in anticipation and making their own guesses.

English Villages provide a short-term immersion English experience in a live-in environment where only English is spoken to promote English learning and to build cultural awareness. They can be found in places like Seoul and Gyeonggi-do.

[05.18.11] Sooyoung and Her Parents visit Park Seungil

In the midst of their hectic schedules, Girls' Generation's Sooyoung went together with her parents to visit Park Seungil. Park Seungil, a former basketball star and coach, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease back in 2002.

Sooyoung was the first member to visit the former basketball coach and talk about him in public. In her apearance on an episode of Strong Heart earlier this year, Sooyoung spoke about how she was moved by Park Seungil's story. After finding out that he is a fan of Girls' Generation, she has been making constant efforts to visit him.

Previously, Yuri and Yoona have also visited Park Seungil. Fans are amazed at how the girls were able to squeeze in time to visit him despite their busy schedules.
