J.ESTINA Releases New Video Advertisement

J.ESTINA Releases New Video Advertisement

groupjestina120118

J.ESTINA has released a new S/S fashion film advertisement. Modeling different bags along with J.ESTINA jewelry, each Girls’ Generation member portrays individual unique charms in the video. Each shot focuses on a member with a purse, bag, or piece of jewelry. The ad has managed to display J.ESTINA products, all the while capturing Girls’ Generation’s elegance. SONEs have grown accustomed to seeing Girls Generation carrying J.ESTINA products in both advertisements and in public.

J.ESTINA’s commercials seem to have taken a simple approach to the concept behind every set. Rather than a distracting environment, they place Girls’ Generation in simple rooms that bring focus to the members and their products.

You can watch the videos below.

Wall Street Journal Online Covers Girls’ Generation

Wall Street Journal Online Covers Girls' Generation

Wall Street Journal SNSD

Girls’ Generation was recently featured on the website for the “Wall Street Journal”, one of the largest newspapers in the United States, with many readers worldwide. An entry posted on the website’s “Scene Asia” blog discussed Girls’ Generation’s appearance on tonight’s “Late Show with David Letterman”, their global popularity, and the recent SMTown concert held in New York.

The Wall Street Journal continued their coverage with a video segment on “Asia Today”, which focused on introducing Girls’ Generation and detailed their popularity worldwide. Unfortunately, the correspondent who was interviewed in the segment portrayed several members of Girls’ Generation as only being singing or dancing specialists. She also incorrectly suggested that the group’s fanbase in Korea was made up of only one gender and age group, namely older males. However, the correspondent accurately stated earlier in the video that Girls’ Generation’s fanbase is spread throughout all age ranges and among both males and females. You can check out the clip below.

‘The Boys’ Surpasses 30 Million Views on YouTube

'The Boys' Surpasses 30 Million Views on YouTube

20111018_snsd_6-600x348

As if Girls' Generation's "Gee" surpassing sixty million views on YouTube was not enough, the music video for "The Boys" Korean version on SMTown's YouTube page has just passed thirty million views.

“The Boys”, in contrast to Girls’ Generation’s previous songs such as “Gee” and “Oh!”, showed off a more feminine and sexy side of them instead of a cute and bubbly style. The song was written and produced by Yoo Youngjin and Teddy Riley, while the dance choreography was created by Rino Nakasone.

The girls have also achieved some amazing feats despite not promoting in Korea until later in the year, such as winning six consecutive times on KBS Music Bank K-Chart for “The Boys”, and winning a triple crown on both M! Countdown and Inkigayo as well. Congratulations to Girls' Generation on their latest achievement.

Back to Basics – January Edition II

It’s been more than half a year since I last updated with a new Back to Basics edition, and it gives me the odd jitters to welcome you back after so long! Instead of continuing from where I left off (month of May), I’ll be starting from scratch; Bringing you all the way back to the past of our 9 favourite girls beginning with January. The years 2008 till 2010 have already been covered HERE, so you might want to read that first before you continue with this edition of January 2011.

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter where it begins, because Back to Basics promises you earnest reminiscing, and you’ll be smiling to yourself by the end of it. I know I always do. No read is ever a boring read when it comes to the girls, so brush up on your knowledge and enjoy while you're at it!

Just like how the month of January introduces new possibilities and potential, the spotlight remained on Girls’ Generation as everyone eagerly waited for their next move. After an overwhelmingly successful 2010 in South Korea, it was inevitable the girls begin their advancement beyond their home grounds. Ambitious and driven, the girls voiced out their intentions to keep up with activities in Korea as well. It became apparent that the girls had more than ample activities mapped out to keep them occupied for the new year.

2011: We want to work diligently in both Korea and Japan and be loved by our fans. If there was one more thing, we do want to go out into the wider world. So that we can meet our fans in countries around the world.

After bagging an impressive number of awards at 2010′s year-end award ceremonies, the girls continued their streak at the 20th High1 Seoul Music Awards. Held on January 20th at Kyunghee University, the 9 girls were present to accept the Daesang (with 3 other awards) for the 2nd year in a row. Yuri was one of the three hosts, and the girls expressed their gratitude for being able to start the year on a high note.

Girls’ Generation’s influence surpasses just the music scene. The girls were chosen by Asia Today as powerful individuals that have a positive impact on how the world views South Korea. Among the other delegates chosen, Girls’ Generation was one of only two artists.

With the aim of working hard in the Japanese music scene, the girls kicked off the year with Run Devil Run Japan. The song was first released through Chaku-Uta (ringtone) and reached top place on the daily rankings. This marked a successful start as the ringtone industry plays a significant role in Japan and is a telling sign of an artist’s influence. Girls’ Generation later appeared on Asahi’s “Music Station” on the 28th to perform the song. The girls were guests alongside labelmate DBSK and popular singer Avril Lavigne.

Furthermore, their Japanese debut the previous year did not go unrewarded. The girls were honoured with a cameo on the Fuji TV drama, Sazae-san 3, making it the first appearance from a foreign artist. The girls also clinched the “New Artist of the Year” at the 25th Japan Gold Disc Awards in the Japanese music category. The prestigious awards ceremony chooses the winners based solely on the net sales of their albums.

As their fanbase gradually grew, many Japanese artists also began to speak highly of the girls. Popular singer and actor Kimura Takura chose “Gee” as the opening song for a radio show while rock act B’z praised the girls for not only their looks, but also for their singing skills and songs. Moreover, Shusuke Kaneko, the director of “Death Note” tweeted about how stunned he was by their charm on stage, while football players like Yuto Nagatomo were captured watching videos of the girls at their hotel suites.

Needless to say, this marked the beginning of the SoShi Syndrome in Japan.

Taeyeon and Seohyun To Join Tiffany as Hosts of MBC’s ‘Music Core’

Taeyeon and Seohyun To Join Tiffany as Hosts of MBC's 'Music Core'

20120131_1327997531_03804500_1

Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Seohyun have been casted as the new MCs for MBC’s “Show! Music Core” alongside fellow member Tiffany.

Park Sukwon, the PD of “Music Core”, revealed in a phone call with TVReport, “Taeyeon and Seohyun will take over for the role of Yuri. We have decided to use a three MC formation.”

This is not the first time that Taeyeon and Seohyun will serve as MCs on “Music Core”. They have proven their talents in the past as special guest hosts.

Park Sukwon also said, “Taeyeon and Seohyun are not temporary special MCs. Starting from this week, they will continue to work with us as permanent hosts.”

After leaving “Show! Music Core” last week, Yuri is expected to begin acting and will take a role in the SBS TV drama “Fashion King”, which will start in March.

The Best of the Best: Top 5 Choreographies

The Best of the Best: Top 5 Choreographies

gq7P5

Hello and welcome to the fourth edition of "The Best of the Best", a countdown of the best in Girls' Generation’s music, CFs, and related media. While this time I went over the five best choreographies, you guys can tell me what you want to see next by voting in the poll at the end of the article. More votes are always better, so please tell me what you want! As for this edition, read through my explanation for each choice then leave your own opinions of the best choreographies in the comments section! I linked the music video in each respective choice so each choreography can be properly seen. Let's start shall we?

5. The Boys

Sleek, refined, stylish, and oddly simple: just a few words to describe the choreography for “The Boys”. The song is definitely moving the girls in a new direction, but the dance accompanying it isn’t too complex. Simple hand movements combined with what fans call “the zombie dance” put together what is one of the easier Girls’ Generation choreographies. The dance also adds another dimension when the rap portion of the song begins: with all of girls crouching down on the floor, it emphasizes the passion in their movements. The addictive song combined with a simple choreography definitely provides for some eye-catching moments, but nothing particularly special comes out of this routine. It would fare better on the countdown if it had a signature move that was easy to pull off, therefore generating wide appeal, something the higher ranked choreographies all have.

4. Run Devil Run

When first looking at the dance for RDR, it may seem deceivingly simple. However, the plain running motion is indeed harder than it looks. The move fits in perfectly with the song’s title, which made it stand out. Following the run, the girls brush their hands in front of them, again connecting to the song directly. If anything, this choreography focuses more on the motions of the girls’ hands rather than anything else. A mix of smoothness, sensuality, and certainly sizzle, the choreography gained many fans after its first appearance. It also mixes well with the song’s darker and more aggressive feel, something that was not seen from the girls too often at that point. Despite its signature move, Run Devil Run finds its place at number 4 because it sticks to a darker and more aggressive routine which doesn’t welcome everyone; regardless, it still stands out.

3. Into the New World

The song that pulls the heartstrings of SONEs everywhere, “Into the New World” packs a punch with its choreography as well. In what I see as their most physically challenging dance, the girls move around the stage quickly and cleanly, and put more energy into these gestures than any other routine. The various formations throughout the dance showcase the girls’ physical endurance and perfectly fit the feeling of the song. The climax of the song is reached as the girls powerfully kick up into the air, the perfect cherry on top. The overall variety combined with the quick movements certainly propel “Into the New World”‘s choreography higher than other dances, but the dance lacks a certain addictive feeling which the higher choreographies on this countdown exude. “Into The New World” is a jack of all trades, full of variety, but a master of none, not excelling in anything unique.

2. MR. TAXI

When it was first announced, the title “MR. TAXI” surely raised a few eyebrows. But once the catchy song and electrifying dance were shown off, everything flowed well together. Dubbed the “steering wheel” dance, the choreography became quite popular among its target Japanese audience. With the girls’ hips moving in unison with their hands, the dance provided a sultry mix of moves. The one thing that stood out to me during the whole song is that the girls’ moves are more crisp and strong compared to their other dances. With solos and duets, the choreography showcases each member in the perfect way. The choreography brought together something fun yet attractive at the same time, a unique mix. While the dance showed something different, it failed to create the impact of the number one choice, and just didn’t catch on like some of the other choreographies on the countdown.

1. Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)

My pick for the best Girls’ Generation choreography is none other than the dance from their smash hit “Sowoneul Malhaebwa”. From the beginning of the dance, with the girls lined up in a straight line and then suddenly splitting, you can tell that this is going to be good. The routine emphasizes the girls’ legs, which became famous due to the flicking of their leg during the dance. They showed off their slender legs while keeping a sophisticated feel, so it’s no wonder that this dance started a craze throughout both Korea and Japan. The girls’ hips also move in an almost hypnotizing way, emphasizing the girls’ voluptuous bodies. While the legs and hips are definitely showcased, the transitions in the midst of the song are cleanly done, and the girls have an air of confidence every time the song is performed. It has everything you need in a choreography: wide appeal, an extremely catchy song, and a signature move.

Learn Korean with Soshi: January Edition

Learn Korean with Soshi: January Edition

Featured Image

The first month of 2012 is coming to an end, but there are always methods to freshen up anyway. One of them, of course, is by learning five new phrases in Learn Korean with Soshi’s January edition. The “codes” for typing the Korean characters are placed below each phrase, so make sure you know how to type them out by reading this post on the forum. If you’re a new reader and feel like five phrases aren’t enough, check out the previous editions here. Enjoy!

괜찮아? (Gwaenchanha?) = Are (you) okay?
How to type: rhoscksgdk?

Kyungsan cried when a 3-day-old baby lion approached him and Mommy Tiffany was quick to bring the lion away from him. She then attempted to comfort Kyungsan, asking questions like “괜찮아?”. 괜찮아 means okay (괜찮- “to be okay” + intimate sentence ending -아). The subject isn’t directly stated, but it is implied instead.

An example situation where the phrase 괜찮아? would be used:
7-year-olds Yuri and Yoona loved to run around the playground because they believed it was secretly the place where aliens land at night. Although they never had permission to explore the place at late hours, they would always meet each other once a new day started to find any form of evidence. Yoona went through some of the bushes to find a fragment of a UFO but was startled to find a thorn scrape her skin. Yuri immediately hurried over and asked, “괜찮아?”

늘 미안해요 (Neul mianhaeyo) = (I’m) always sorry
How to type: smf aldksgody

While talking about the times when the girls feel sorry for doing the wrong actions towards their families, Jessica expressed that they were always sorry. 늘 means always, 미안해요 means to be sorry (미안하- “to be sorry” + polite sentence ending -어요).

An example situation where the phrase 늘 미안해요 would be used:
Taeyeon cringed when her parents asked for a picture with her as a memorabilia from the holidays, but she refused politely while she positioned herself to take a picture of the rest of her family instead. She saw her dad’s face twitch into disappointment for a slight second and regretted her action that instant. Having her picture taken wasn’t a hard task, but for some reason, she wanted to avoid the camera lens for one day. Mom, Dad, 늘 미안해요, she thought silently and snapped the picture. It felt oddly relieving to be able to move around without visual evidence to haunt her a few days later.

빨리 와 (Ppalli wa) = Come quickly
How to type: Qkffl dhk

During Girls’ Generation’s early debut days, Yoona was occupied with her drama which led her to miss some of their scheduled performances. Sunny expressed how they want Yoona back by saying “빨리 와”. 빨리 means fast (adverb), and 와 means to come (오- “to come” + intimate sentence ending -아).

An example situation where the phrase 빨리 와 would be used:
Hyoyeon called Seohyun’s name out for the nth time, eyes still fixed on the gift Yonghwa had sent in. The younger girl was busy tidying up the dining table, which was messy after the girls rushed to their respective schedules that morning. Impatient, Hyoyeon shouted “빨리 와” once again.

오서오세요 (Oseo-oseyo) = Welcome
How to type: dhtjdhtpdy

After Hyungdon knocked on the door to Girls’ Generation’s dorm, Yuri and Sooyoung went up to the door to greet him but he scurried away immediately. Yuri chased him down the stairs, and prevented him from entering the elevator. She immediately expressed her greetings with “오서오세요”. The whole phrase means welcome, and has a variety of general uses: from people greeting you when you enter a shop to welcoming a relative.

An example situation where the phrase 오서오세요 would be used:
Hyoyeon ran through the streets, hoping her best friend was still in the restaurant. The intended meeting time was two hours ago, but the delay in her schedules forced Hyoyeon to stay a bit longer in the recording studio. She heard someone greet her with “오서오세요” upon entering the restaurant and was surprised to find that her best friend had actually been imitating the waitress’s voice. She pulled her best friend into a hug, apologized for the delay, and picked a spot for them to have their dinner.

가위 바위 보 (Gawi bawi bo) = Rock, paper, scissors
How to type: rkdnl qkdnl qh

This last one isn’t exactly a phrase, but a little game that the nine girls have played a lot. 가위 means scissors, 바위 means rock, 보 means paper. It is translated as “rock, paper, scissors” because that is how you would usually say the phrase in English.

An example situation where the phrase 가위 바위 보 would be used:
Yoona and Sooyoung eyed each other quietly before focusing their gaze on the last sandwich on the table. Before they started to argue over the piece of food, both reached out their hands at the same time only to pull it back once they realized what the other just did. They let out a sigh, and Yoona made a proposal. “가위 바위 보?” Sooyoung agreed right away.

Jiwoong’s Message for His Sister Taeyeon

Jiwoong's Message for His Sister Taeyeon

taengsoppa

A post that was written at some point in the past by the older brother of Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon has drawn attention.

The post entitled “Taeyeon’s Older Brother’s Photo, Handsome Gentleman” was posted on an online community site’s message board along with photos.

In the photos, Taeyeon’s elder brother Kim Jiwoong, who is 25 years old, is shown to have very distinct facial features and shows a cuteness similar to his sister. A message was also left for Taeyeon.

He wrote a heartwarming message that read, “Ever since I got into middle school, you were already mature and, at least in thought, you were like the eldest sister of the house, determined and professional. Even when you were living far away on your own, you always had a stoic and level-headed mindset that always made me bow my head to you (editors note: in respect).

He continued, “My confidence in you is at 200%. You are my little sister, so I believe that you will do well. Your family is always standing by your side. I love you.”

Netizens commented, “Taeyeon’s brother has a soft spot for his little sister. I am jealous of Taeyeon for having such a brother and of Jiwoong for having such a sister,” and “As expected, Taeyeon has always been a well-mannered girl from the start. I am very jealous of the siblings’ relationship.”

A beautiful portrait of Jessica was recently found graffitied on an alley in Melbourne, Australia. Though Soshified does not approve of vandalism, exceptions can be made for art as beautiful as this. The original photo can be seen here.

If you have any pictures or videos you’d like to submit for SONE Picture/Video of the Week, please feel free to do so by sending them to the Soshified Writing Team at tip@soshified.com or posting at the official SONE Picture/Video of the Week thread.

Tiffany Completes Final ‘Fame’ Musical Performance

Tiffany Completes Final 'Fame' Musical Performance

DSC_4548.jpg

Last night, Tiffany completed her final performance for the musical “Fame”. In the musical, she portrayed the character Carmen Diaz, a performing arts student with dreams of becoming famous. Her first performance was a little over a month ago, and SONEs showed their support for Tiffany by sending a large amount of rice to celebrate her musical debut. For her final show last night, SONEs put together another special event to show their appreciation and love for Tiffany.

After the final curtain call, SONEs prepared a cake outside the venue where the musical was performed. The cake was surrounded by candles arranged in a heart shape. Once Tiffany emerged from the venue, SONEs cheered wildly and congratulated her for a successful stint as a musical actress. After blowing out a candle on the cake and drawing loud applause from the fans, Tiffany exclaimed, “Saranghaeyo!” to the fans and promised to continue working hard in the future.

The congratulatory fan event ended as Tiffany walked to her car on a red carpet that was lined on both sides by candles. The red carpet and candles had also been prepared by SONEs in attendance. Tiffany turned and waved to her fans several more times before finally getting in her car to return home.

The next foray for Girls’ Generation into the world of stage musicals begins on March 28th, as Sunny will assume the role of Brenda in the musical “Catch Me If You Can”.

[Soshibusters] Soshified Myths Debunked

[Soshibusters] Soshified Myths Debunked

soshibusters

Soshified is closing in on its fourth year anniversary, accumulating over 200,000 members along the way. We have established ourselves as one of the largest international communities for Girls' Generation through sheer hard work, confidence, perseverance, and a little luck. Interestingly enough, while our reputation has grown, myths have also grown along with us.

There are some common misconceptions about Soshified that are floating around, some of which are understandable, and some of which are quite amusing, to say the least. From the silly "Soy's real name is Soy" to "Soshified works under SM Entertainment", we have encountered a wide range of beliefs that have been misinterpreted from simple misunderstandings. Distinction between fact and myth blurred by rumors, trivial details distorted by popular gossip, whatever the reasons may be, they have added to some of the mystery behind who we are and what we do. This will hopefully set things straight with the cloud of uncertainty that encircles Soshified, so let's dive into some of the prevailing myths that have tempted your imagination.

Myth: Soshified stands for "SoShi + Satisfied".
Fact: Soshified does not stand for "SoShi + Satisified". This has been one of those pesky beliefs that have notoriously appeared in several Korean news articles time and time again. We want to clear things once and for all that this is not what it stands for. The suffix "-fied" is added to alter the word "SoShi" into a verb. Instead of it being a name, it becomes "an act of". To become "Soshified" simply means to have become a SoShi fan. So, if we hear or see anyone say "SoShi + Satisfied", we will come after you!

Myth: Soy's real name is Soy.
Fact: Of course it is… No, it's really not. In the June 2011 Part 2 column of Soshified Spotlight, Soy answered several questions about herself including what her first name is, which is Oanh. It's really no secret, so please don't think something is being revealed that shouldn't be! Apart from all of her SoShi goodies and merchandises that are packed into a very pink room, her Soshified username is well known among the Girls' Generation public, so it comes as no surprise that people believe that Soy is her first name.

Myth: Soshified Stylists are Girls' Generation's personal stylists.
Fact: Soshified Stylists spot Girls' Generation's clothing, accessories and make-up by looking over photos and videos, and identify the brands and specific items they wear. They present hair and make-up tutorials that instruct SONEs on how to style themselves like Girls' Generation. So, you know those messages that you send to Soshified Stylists that praise or complain over their choice of outfits they chose to dress Girls' Generation in? There's no need to send them! They are not their personal stylists.

Myth: Soshified Spotlight features only staff members, and The Cucumber reports actual news.

Fact: Many comments have been made that Soshified Spotlight is geared towards just staff members. However, the column features both regular Soshified members and Soshified staff members every month. We love everyone just the same. For The Cucumber, it does not report actual news and is just for pure laughs. It is not something meant to be taken seriously, so just sit back and enjoy, and please don't think that Yoona really lives in a pot. Yes, we've seen those comments…

Myth: All Soshified staff members are Korean and can speak the Korean language.
Fact: Many of us are not Korean and cannot speak the language, though a lot of staff members do attempt to learn it. While Soshified Korean Subbers have a requirement to know the Korean language, it is not necessary to run parts of the site.

Myth: Soshified staff members are paid.
Fact: Nope, this isn’t true. Staff members are not paid. There's an assumption that Soshified profits out of the donations that are made; however, Soshified receives just enough, and only just, to keep the site running. However, since there has been an influx of SoShi goods, being paid would be nice. We accept extra donations by the way. No, we’re just kidding!

Myth: Staff members work on Soshified matters 24/7.
Fact: Contrary to popular belief, staff members do many things outside of Soshified to keep their personal lives productive and a little entertaining. For instance, many staff members have jobs and are in school, and some even do both. Some have picked up gaming as a hobby, whether it's fruit slicing, zombie shooting, or ones that draw interesting rambles from the frozen arctic. We have family, friends, and parties to attend too! In short, we volunteer our time and effort to provide SONEs with quality subs and pictures, fan events, support bundles, and the best up-to-date information on Girls' Generation.

Myth: Girls' Generation members answer questions on Ask Oppa/Unnie and host Soshified radio shows.
Fact: Wouldn't this be nice? When the two features of Soshified first began, some actually questioned and believed that Girls' Generation themselves were involved in them. It is possible that assumptions were made over the excitement over something new and intriguing. But just in case there is still any confusion left over, they are run by our very own Soshified staff members.

Myth: Soshified works under SM Entertainment.
Fact: Soshified doesn’t work under SM Entertainment. We are, after all, just a forum run by fans. However, since Soshified's popularity has grown immensely, SM has taken notice and collaborations have been made in the past for a few events. Soshified is not officially affiliated with them in any way.

Myth: Soshified has direct contact with Girls' Generation.
Fact: People have a notion in their minds that Soshified has access to Girls' Generation's personal contact information. While the site does get occasional surprise visits from the girls, Soshified doesn’t have the ability to contact them directly. Soshified doesn’t have control over their schedules, which means we can’t request for them to come to a specific country to hold a concert or an event. So sadly, sleep-over parties are out of the question.

We hope that we have clarified some of the aforementioned beliefs for you. Things can look a certain way, but remember, looks can be deceiving. An assumption made on a whim may be an easier alternative, but careful reading, common sense, and a little thought could dispel many of these myths.

While some of what we do has to remain confidential, it is necessary, so that we can bring you the best Girls’ Generation-related content. Of course, many myths start from a small amount of truth. If you think about it, myths are somewhat of a paradox, fabrications born out of reality, and masking this truth are a lot of false perceptions.

Are there any myths that we’ve missed? What are some other popular beliefs about Soshified do you think there are?

On January 27th, the Japan Gold Disc Award 2012 honored Girls’ Generation with the “Best Album of Asia” award for their first full Japanese album. Since its release in June of 2011, the album has sold over 780,000 copies and was even ranked by SPIN Magazine as one of the top pop albums of 2011. The album has also surpassed one million shipments and placed in the top ten of the Oricon charts for 17 weeks, a new record for any artists outside of Japan.

Debuting with “GENIE” in 2010, Girls’ Generation also received the “New Artist of the Year” award at last year’s Japan Gold Disc Award 2011. In only a year, they have since released a single, a full album, and held a successful concert tour.
