Today Is My Day: A Portrait of Tiffany for Her 23rd(24th) Birthday

Today Is My Day: A Portrait of Tiffany for Her 23rd(24th) Birthday

tiffany (31)

“Today is my day”

Imagine the strength and courage it would take to leave everything behind, travel halfway around the world by yourself, and start a new life. A young girl named Stephanie Hwang did just that in pursuit of her dream to be a singer. After years of intense training, tears, good times and bad, that young girl reached her dream as Tiffany of Girls’ Generation. She lost her mother at a young age, but Tiffany often says that she was blessed with eight sisters. She has become an inspiration for people all over the world because of her tireless efforts through all of her hardships, and she is loved for her innumerable charms. Her smile can brighten your day, and her voice can move your soul. Tiffany is a beautiful person, inside and out.

Everyone’s favorite mushroom

From debut, “Brighter than gems Fany Fany Tiffany” was an adorable girl who caught everyone’s attention with her eye-smile. Just like her nickname, Tiffany was known to be a cheerful person, and her cuteness shined through, especially when she famously mispronounced her own nickname and said “mushrooms” instead of “gems”. Since she had moved to Korea from America, her expertise in Korean was limited, and although it was cute at times, it did lead to some cultural misunderstandings. However, Tiffany is someone who takes everything as an opportunity to grow, and she took on roles as an MC, studying her scripts diligently, and overcame those hurdles.

The iconic Music Core mics

Along with Yuri, Tiffany became an MC powerhouse. Their time together on “Music Core” showed how funny and entertaining Tiffany was as an MC. MC YulTi became a fan favorite for a long time, and when the two left the show to focus on promotions in Japan, it was a truly sad day as they shed tears together. However, they couldn’t stay away forever and were reunited again on “Music Core” in 2011. Tiffany and Yuri were a special team, and they were even recognized with a special MC award at the 2011 MBC Entertainment awards for their excellent work. When Yuri left to focus on her drama, Tiffany was joined by Taeyeon and Seohyun, and she showed how much of a seasoned pro she had become, continuing to showcase her fun and goofy antics that fans had fallen in love with.

Future Broadway star

Along with becoming an accomplished MC, Tiffany took on the challenge of musical acting with her role as Carmen Diaz in the musical “Fame”. Tiffany trained hard and practiced for long hours for her role in the musical, and she exhibited her talent and hard work to everybody with her incredible acting and impeccable voice. Her role in “Fame” was one of her biggest challenges yet, but Tiffany always gives everything she has. She rose to the occasion and shattered expectations with amazing performances.

The eye-smile queen

Tiffany’s style has matured over the years, but one thing has remained constant, and that is her legendary eye-smile. Tiffany’s smile is so bright and cheerful that it has been melting the hearts of fans for years. Not only that, but even people like magazine staff members or TV crews who meet her for the first time are stunned once Tiffany shows off her one-of-a-kind eye-smile. One look at Tiffany smiling and all your troubles just disappear. It’s like magic, really.

“Everything pink, mine”

Of course, her smile is just one of the many charms that Tiffany possesses. She has an almost unhealthy obsession with the color pink. She has a soulful singing voice that she really got to show off through her amazing OST’s and “Twinkle”.  There are countless stories from fans and various staff members alike that describe Tiffany’s kindness. Everyone who meets her is humbled by her pure heart and how nicely she treats others, regardless of who they are. Basically, when it comes to Tiffany, there isn’t just one thing that defines her. All of her amazing qualities add up to the beautiful person that captivates us, makes us laugh, and makes us proud. She is the California girl that had a big dream, and now she is a true star. Today is her day.

“It's as much passion as you have, just follow it, and you can be where you want to be. I mean, I am.”

‘The 3rd Hospital’ Reveals a Profile for Sooyoung’s Character

'The 3rd Hospital' Reveals a Profile for Sooyoung's Character

sooyoungcharacterprofile

As a preview for its upcoming broadcast, “The 3rd Hospital” has revealed a character profile for “Euijin”, Sooyoung’s character in the drama.

Lee Euijin

Euijin, who just returned from Germany,
“I want to stay in Seunghyun’s house!”
A violist who hangs onto Seunghyun.

She lived with Choi Hyunwook in Jiri Mountain as his daughter.
She’s a high school student and is studying viola.
When she was 5 years old, her mother passed away.
After that, Hyunwook took care of her. That’s why it’s “Lee” Euijin.
She grew up under Hyunwook and Uncle Kanghyuk in Jiri Mountain.
Because Hyunwook spoiled her, she started talking to Seunghyun
using informal language as soon as she saw him, but it looked cute rather than rude.
As soon as Seunghyun heard Euijin’s name, his face hardened.
When he later found out the truth, he was hurt.
Euijin liked Seunghyun from the beginning, and without hiding, she followed Seunghyun everywhere.
She tells her uncle, who was worried that no one would take a tomboy like her,
not to worry because there is Seunghyun.
After a few years in Jiri Mountain, Seunghyun returns to Seoul.
To Euijin, who starts to have tears in her eyes after absorbing the news, Seunghyun promises he will come back for her.
Soon, after her studies in Germany, Euijin comes back to Seohan Hyupjin Hospital where Seunghyun is staying.
Within a few years, she became much prettier. Now, she is not just a girl he used to know,
but comes back for Seunghyun as a woman.
While she was waiting for Seunghyun in a research room, she tried to pull a prank by grabbing the body of a person who was coming in. However, it wasn’t Seunghyun, but Doohyun.
She yelled, “100% sorry!” and ran away. This was her first encounter with Doohyun.
After that, she meets Seunghyun and tells him she will stay at his house during the orchestra audition period.
Starting a new life in Korea, two men come for her.
Seunghyun, who she really liked from her childhood, and Doohyun, who keeps running into her.

“The cute and lovely Euijin came to take responsibility of Seunghyun.
I think Seunghyun looks out for me because my name is Euijin. The fact that my name is Euijin… I’m very thankful.”

“The 3rd Hospital” is set to begin airing on tvN beginning September 5th.

If you have any pictures or videos you’d like to submit for SONE Picture/Video of the Week, please feel free to do so by sending them to the Soshified Writing Team at tip@soshified.com or posting at the official SONE Picture/Video of the Week thread.

Learn Korean with Soshi: July 2012 Edition

Learn Korean with Soshi: July 2012 Edition

Header-Image1

Hello, and welcome to the latest edition of Learn Korean with Soshi. The month of July is now coming to an end, and it is now time to present five new phrases. You can type these out on your computer by pressing the keys located below each phrase, and make sure you know how to do so by reading this post. If you feel that five phrases aren't enough, you can backtrack the previous editions here. Happy learning!

냄새 나요 (Naemsae nayo) = (It) smells
How to type: soato skdy

On SBS’s “Haha Mong Show”, Tiffany voluntarily explained that she disliked Yuri’s nutrition minerals due to the bad smell. Yuri made everyone laugh when she quickly consumed it and approached Tiffany to let her smell her breath. 냄새 means smell, and 나다 means to come (out). Tiffany also used the ending -요 to indicate that she is speaking in polite speech form.

An example situation where the phrase 냄새 나요 would be used:
“Hey, have you seen Sica?”
“No, why? Shouldn’t she be sleeping?”
“But she’s not there. It’s really odd.”
“That’s true. By the way, what’s that from the kitchen? 냄새 나요.”
“I don’t know. I haven’t been in there since last night. Why does this smell like smoke…”
“Do you think Jessica got hungry and decided to cook…”
“SICA!!!”

언니 좋아해요 (Unnie johahaeyo) = Unnie, (I) like you
How to type: djssl whgdkgody

To complete a mission on “Chunji Radio”, Sunny had sixty seconds to make one of the callers say a certain phrase. However, the caller avoided the question and repeatedly said, “Unnie, I like you.” At the end of the call, she discovered that the caller was not just anyone, but was actually Yuri. 언니 means unnie, and 좋아하다 means to like/to be fond of. Yuri used the sentence ending -요 for politeness.

An example situation where the phrase 언니 좋아해요 would be used:
The blinding flashes from countless cameras were aimed at them, but that’s where the role of sunglasses come in. They double as a cover for their sleepy eyes, too. Never thought they’d appreciate an accessory as much.
“Unnie! Unnie!”
“Noona, you’re so pretty!”
“언니 좋아해요!”
Although their visions were dimmed, they could never fail to see the enthusiasm and energy within each and every one of their fans, so they smile and wave. SONEs were the best fans you could ever ask for.

정리하고 있어요 (Jeonglihago isseoyo) = (I) am trying to get (them) right
How to type: wjdflgkrh dlTdjdy

On one behind-the-scenes clip, Taeyeon explained that some of the lyrics to Girls’ Generation’s new Japanese song were changed, so she was trying to “organize” them, making sure she would get them right. 정리하다 means to put/to arrange something in order, and the polite ending -고 있어요 is used for expressing the action as a progressive one.

An example situation where the phrase 정리하고 있어요 would be used:
Tick, tick, tick. Time doesn’t stop for urgent situations, it escalates instead. Forgetting the words to a song isn’t an unfamiliar problem, either. That was the main reason why Girls’ Generation’s managers carry a thick stack of lyrics before every concert.
“Oppa, are you looking through our lyrics? If you happen to have my solo somewhere in there, that’d be great.”
“Yeah, 정리하고 있어요. I was thinking of arranging it according to performance order to make things easier. Let’s see, solo, solo… Ah, here you go.”

정신줄 놓으면 안돼 (Jungshinjul noheumyeon andwae) = (We) can’t lose (our) mentality
How to type: wjdtlswnf shgdmaus dkseho

While teaching a child to swim, Yoona found her teammates playing around. She then said “we can’t lose our mentality”, in hopes of getting them to focus once again. 정신줄 means head (as in mentality), 놓다 means to release, to lose, to lay down, -(으)면 corresponds to if, and 안돼 (안되다) means must not/should not.

An example situation where the phrase 정신줄 놓으면 안돼 would be used:
Although dancing has been scientifically proven to be energizing, there were a lot of times when the nine girls felt like every beat was sucking out every ounce of energy they had left. They would take a short break, but their leader would always say “정신줄 놓으면 안돼, fighting!”, before they stand up again and prepare to tackle their latest choreography.

진짜 예뻐 (Jinjja yeppeo) = Really pretty
How to type: wlsWk dPQj

Kyungsan has just arrived, and Yoona couldn’t hold in her excitement. She took a look at the baby boy and went back running, exclaiming he’s “really pretty”. 진짜 means really/very/truly, while 예쁘다 means to be pretty/to be lovely. Here, Yoona only used the sentence ending -어 because she is speaking casually to her peers.

An example situation where the phrase 진짜 예뻐 would be used:
“Sooyoung-ah, what do you think of this dress?”
“…The colors don’t match, Hyoyeon.”
“Get it for me.”
“No way. It looks weird.”
“But look at it! 진짜 예뻐, 진짜!”
“Fashion terrorist.”
“You’re brutally honest.”
“I get that a lot.”
“…I still think the dress is pretty.”

Soshified Spotlight July 2012 Part 1: Chocoful

Soshified Spotlight July 2012 Part 1: Chocoful

ssfspotlightsmallbanner

Welcome to the July 2012 edition of Soshified Spotlight.

Just like every other month, we’re once again highlighting a regular member in Part 1, and a Soshified staff member in Part 2.

This month, we’re featuring Chocoful in Part 1 and cream in Part 2. Chocoful, or Sara, takes us to a new continent that has not been featured in Soshified Spotlight yet, being a resident of Helsinki, Finland. As expected though, like many other SONEs, her heart is set on South Korea, so much so that she plans to move there when she turns eighteen. Until then, she’s working hard, practicing her dancing and singing and learning Korean so that she can audition for SM Entertainment or one of the other big entertainment agencies.

*****

What is your first name?

The oh so very common Sara, but I’m also referred to as Choco. ^ ^

How did you find out about Soshified and why did you decide to join?

Through youtube video links ho ho ho .. Invincible Youth as full videos lured me in heh :3

How did you come up with your screen name?

I’m really not sure… It could be because of my shikshin personality, but who knows ㅋㅋㅋ

Where are you originally from, and where do you currently reside (city and country for both)?

Born in Hong Kong but I currently live in Helsinki, Finland~

How did you end up in Helsinki?

My parents are from Finland so they moved back, taking us kids along. I think they also moved partly because of their jobs.. But I forget ^ ^’

If we were visiting you where you live for one day, where would you take us? Why are these places so significant?

I would take you all to.. my school! I don’t know a lot of places to visit.. Haaaah my city seems a bit too dull to me sometimes ^ ^’

Tell us a little about your life. What do you do full time and in your free time?

Well, I try to use all of my time for vocal and dance training. My goal is to fly to Korea one day, to audition for one of the major companies. Wish me luck!

Where did your desire to audition to become a Korean pop idol come from?

Well, my love for music has been pretty much the main factor, but aside that, I guess it’s the love for the Korean culture.

Could you tell us about some of the talent competitions that you’ve won?

I haven’t participated in any yet o-o..

What gives you your incredible drive and work ethic?

I guess I’d have to thank my friends for that :3 I actually have been slacking off pretty badly nowadays, but am working on that currently.

What's the most interesting thing about you and/or that has ever happened to you?

It has to be when I went to France last year, in 2011. The welcoming feeling I got when I first met international SSF SONEs in Paris. It’s this amazingly overwhelming feeling that makes you feel all warm inside ^ ^ Altogether, SMTown Paris for me was a dream come true.

Notice me at the back, as the danshin!

For people who are first meeting you (like most of us), how would you describe yourself?

Probably the first thing you’ll notice about me is my height. I’m around Sunny’s height if not a few cm taller ㅋㅋㅋ~ Maybe it’s due to my lack of height, but I also get the word ‘cute’ a lot too. Hwaah.. Please don’t hesitate to get to know me though! ^ ^ That aside, I’m also a known shikshin. A nomnomnomnomnom. Nom.

Tell us some things that most people don't know about you that you think they should.

When you first get to know me, I might be a bit shy. But once you get to know me, you might be begging for me to stop jumping around hohoho ^ ^

Other than that, I’m generally trying to become a better person. I want to travel the world and meet new people. ^ ^ That’s why I love SONEs so much.

Is there anything big in your life that you're working on? (This can be related to school, career, hobbies, family, friends, etc.)

At the moment, I’m trying to finish school and then my plan is to move onto Seoul once I turn 18. I’m also working as a DJ for S9 radio currently, so if you want to tune in please drop by my profile for the link!

What are your interests outside of Girls' Generation?

All Korean groups seem to be my weakness hohoho ^ ^

But other interests include music and arts. Always have been since I was little. They both inspire me to do better and cliché enough, they encourage me to go on whenever I feel down.

How did you first become a fan of Girls' Generation?

After watching some Japanese music groups, I mistook Genie’s Japanese. PV for another music video. I guess I just decided to find out more about them through the internet and then stopped by to watch Hello Baby. Hooked ever since!

Who is your favorite member and why?

I have no bias! They’re all unique in their owns ways and I can’t bring myself to choose ^ ^

What is your favorite Girls' Generation song and MV and why?

Into the New World. Even though I wasn’t there for their debut, it brings this warm and yet nostalgic emotion to me whenever I see/hear it.

What is your favorite Girls' Generation moment and why?

Adrenaline rush when Tiffany and Yuri reached out to me and Micha (@muchworld) during the end of the SMTown Paris concert! That foamheart Yuri is holding was originally mine ㅋㅋㅋ Take good care of it, SNSD!

How has Girls’ Generation impacted your life, in specific areas or even as a whole?

I look at the tiny things in life with a totally new perspective. I’ve become more open to people and I’m getting happier every single day. Thank you, SNSD, for bringing light into my life ^ ^ Studying at school has also become more of a priority to me now heh ^ ^”

What do you like most about Soshified, and why? Any section in particular you’re attracted to?

The best thing about Soshified is the team work everyone puts together to encourage the girls on. I’ve never seen a fandom like this before I became a SONE and I think it’s amazing. I think we should all thank Soy, for making it possible. ^ ^ Kamsahamnida~.

One of the sections I would say I visit the most frequently, is the shoutbox. It’s fun to be able to converse with people internationally, when you have a common interest.

Is there anything else about you that you would like to add?

I’m currently organizing a small (meaning we have a limit to how many people can go) but brief meet-up in Seoul with MrZingery oppa. It’s scheduled to be around 26th Dec – 6th Jan. If there are people willing to join us, we’d be glad to bring you along! If you’re interested, please PM me or MrZingery!

Additional information for the meet-up can be found here = http://soshified.com/forums/topic/16855-ssf-meetups-around-the-world/#entry4558867

What is the Seoul meet-up for?

The Seoul meet-up is just a get-together for international SONEs that e.g. didn’t get to go to the official SSF meet last year. ^ ^

*****

Huge thanks goes out to Sara for participating in Soshified Spotlight this month. As usual, you can submit nominations for future Soshified Spotlights if you’d like to participate or if you’d like to get to know a fellow member better. The “36th College Musicians Festival” showcases the talents of aspiring, young musicians for the world to see. In the videos, Tiffany encourages musicians to apply for an audition in order to take part in the festival and also gives information on exactly how to do so. She also reveals that this year’s show will be broadcasted through a reality television show, providing even more incentive for up-and-coming musicians.

For more information, check out the event’s official website, and good luck to all who apply.

The promotional video in Korean features other “Hallyu” stars alongside Tiffany as well. Check out both clips below.

The Best of the Best – Top 5 Music Videos

The Best of the Best – Top 5 Music Videos

The Best of the Best

Hello and welcome back for the tenth edition of "The Best of the Best", a monthly look into the very best of anything to do with Girls' Generation. As decided by your votes last month, this month's "The Best of the Best" will focus on Girls' Generation's best music videos since debut, ranging from "Into the New World" in 2007 to the recently released "PAPARAZZI". As usual, I've listed my five favorites in the category and the explanations why, and also included the music videos themselves for you to watch and enjoy. However, as with every month, I don't expect anyone to be agreeing with me, so please let me know what would have been in your own top five in the comments! Finally, I've also created a poll for you to decide what I'll be focusing on in the next edition of "The Best of the Best". Be sure to vote, and I'll see you in the next edition!

5. Genie (Japanese PV)

As one of the few "in a box with a green screen" music videos I enjoy, the PV for the Japanese version of "Genie" opens my list of the very best music videos by Girls' Generation. Similar to the original Korean music video, the Japanese PV for "Genie" has little to no story behind it, but makes up for it by showing the members being absolutely beautiful in both group scenes and solo scenes. The music video begins with EXO's Chanyeol, then a trainee, discovering and wiping a dusty lamp in an attic, causing Girls' Generation to appear in a miniature circus tent. This is followed by several minutes of the members looking perfect: their hair is perfect, their makeup is perfect, their outfits are perfect, and the music video is shot at angles to make their perfect legs look as if they go on forever. In contrast to the sexy look in the group shots, the solo shots show a cute side to the members, as if to prove that they can indeed do it all. As Chanyeol rubs the lamp one last time at the end of the video, he finds himself as the luckiest man in the world at what appears to be a movie premiere, surrounded by Girls' Generation dressed as the media, taking photos and asking for interviews. This gorgeous music video wins fifth place on my list.

4. Twinkle

Girls' Generation – TTS's music video for "Twinkle" was different from the others on this list in the sense that it served two purposes: in addition to promoting the very first title track from a Girls' Generation subunit, "Twinkle" was also used to advertise the GiRL de Provence perfume line. However, despite the blatant product placement, "Twinkle" was both fun to watch and looked amazing. Featuring appearances from members of EXO, the music video followed Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun throughout several different rooms, from a lobby to a salon to a grand stage. The GiRL de Provence perfumes were seen in the salon scenes, while keen-eyed fans can also spot Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun's "Run Devil Run" and "The Boys" posters as well. The three members stunned with their many elegant outfits and hairstyles, and six backup dancers, who also acted as their stylists and makeup artists, helped to fill a music video that was short six members of Girls' Generation. Finally, the ending brings my favorite part of the music video as Taeyeon, dressed in yellow, and Tiffany, dressed in pink, walk down staircases to join Seohyun at the center of the Broadway-like stage for the final dance scene. Despite featuring only three of the members of Girls' Generation, "Twinkle" is a fun and enjoyable music video that fits the theme of the track and wins fourth on my list of the best music videos by Girls' Generation.

3. S.E.O.U.L.

Released in 2009 to promote tourism for the city of Seoul, the Seoul Song is a bright and cheerful track matched with an equally uplifting music video that featured Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Sooyoung, and Seohyun, as well as Super Junior's Leeteuk, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun. The members of Girls' Generation are seen throughout the video in different pairings, with Taeyeon attempting to ride a bike in order to keep up with Siwon, Jessica taking photos with Sungmin, Sunny leading children throughout the city as Shindong acts as a crossing guard, Sooyoung dancing opposite Donghae with the buildings of Seoul in the background, and Seohyun dressed in costume handing out heart shaped balloons as Kyuhyun tries to not scare her away. Lastly, the day in Seoul ends members of both groups gather to watch fireworks in the night. Though, unfortunately, it is unlikely to run into idol after attractive idol on the streets of Seoul, this beautiful music video successfully shows off the charms of a wonderful city, as well as those of Girls' Generation, and wins third place on my countdown.

2. 힘내! (Way To Go)

Shot alongside "Gee" as the members prepared their hair and outfits and filmed the music video for their first runaway hit song, Girls' Generation's music video for "힘내!" (“Him Nae!”) takes the next spot on my list of the best music videos by Girls' Generation.  This video never fails to make me smile as the members can be seen enjoying themselves and being at their dorky best the entire time. My favorite parts include Jessica flipping Yoona's hair, Taeyeon playing with the camera as a stylist combs her bangs, Sunny's aggressive kiss, and Sooyoung hitting Hyoyeon in the head with a pillow. NGs for "Gee" are shown as well, with Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Yoona shyly smiling for the camera as filming stops and the members get ready for another try. Finally, Sooyoung, the TVXQ fangirl, can be seen performing the choreography for TVXQ's "Mirotic" with Tiffany and Hyoyeon. Hilarious and full of energy, "힘내!" is second on my list of Girls' Generation's best music videos.

1. Into the New World

Though they have since released more than a dozen music videos, no Girls' Generation music video in five years as a group has come close to their very first. From the very beginning, "Into the New World" shows that it is a different music video from the usual with the sound of a plane's engine spinning in the background as a paper airplane flies through the air. The members of Girls' Generation are first seen as silhouettes, performing the opening steps of one of their most difficult choreographies. The video then changes to show a series of different scenes, each with one or two members, giving time to the different stories shown in each. Instead of mostly showing the dance steps of the choreography, as seen in Girls' Generation's more recent music videos, "Into the New World" instead features Taeyeon and Sooyoung repairing a plane, Jessica and Sunny spraying graffiti on a wall, Tiffany painting a motorbike, Hyoyeon preparing for and dancing her solo on a staircase, Yuri as a barista, Yoona designing and creating an outfit, and Seohyun as a ballerina. As the stories conclude, Jessica and Sunny finish spray-painting "New World" onto a large wall, and Taeyeon takes off into the sky in a newly repaired plane as Sooyoung runs behind her in celebration, a beautiful and symbolic ending to the music video which marked the start of Girls' Generation's journey into a new world.
