Soshified Spotlight May 2012 Part 1: desmondyoona

Yeah, I know I’m late. Not that any of you cared.

Just like every other month, we’re once again highlighting a regular member in Part 1, and a Soshified staff member in Part 2.

Anyway, we’re back with the May 2012 edition of Soshified Spotlight. This month, we’re featuring desmondyoona in Part 1 and cedge in Part 2. desmondyoona, or Desmond, is an administrator at a soccer gaming forum, and obviously a big Girls’ Generation fan. In fact, he loves the girls so much that he’s trying to form a SONE soccer team. He has been mentioned to look like Gary from Running Man, as well as act like him and have his sense of humor. He credits Girls’ Generation for getting him “out from the darkness”, and he claims to be the biggest Girls’ Generation fan among his army buddies.

What is your first name?

Answer: Desmond New. I perhap have one of the most surname in the world which is ”New”. It been handed down generation after generation. But I have chosen an own korean name for myself: Park Taeyoung

How did you come up with your Korean name?

Answer: I came up with my korean name ”park TaeYoung” based on a few factor.

one is that Park is a common surname among korean such as park Chuyong, park Ji Sung who play for favourite soccer club!
Taeyoung was actually inspired by taeyang of Big Bang which is another band I also like
But as I don’t it to be really taeyoung, I decided to just keep the Tae and add young in it as I always feel young at heart

How did you find out about Soshified and why did you decide to join?

Answer: Even through I been a fan of SNSD ever since they debuted, I only found out about the website through a Secondary friend of mine who happened to be a Sone too. As a forum admin in an online soccer gaming website, I naturally have interests in foruming and Once I stepped foot in any forum, You can expect me to keep foruming.
Soshified have a wonderful community and have the quickest update of news here. It great gathering here with all the wonderful Sone who share the same interests as me. As a forumer, this is a Place I revel in and I must said that the admins are doing a good job in keeping the peace here! One specfic admin which I love chatting with is Kendelle who is in charge of Jessica sub forum.

How did you come up with your screen name?

Answer: Easy! My name is Desmond and since my bias is Yoona, I decided to choose desmondyoona as my on screen name

Where are you originally from, and where do you currently reside (city and country for both)?

Answer: I am from Singapore and currently in Singapore, Yishun. Yishun is a place where I have experience many great foods! It is my dream to live in South Korea one day forever supporting Pohang Steelers Fc or Fc Seoul.

How did the dream of living in South Korea come about?

Answer: Even before SNSD entered my life, I have always dream of living in South Korea. All this stemmed back to time of the 2002 Fifa World cup. It was only the year that I get into Soccer. South Korea was the underdog but they defied the odd to reach the semi-final and throughout their journey to the semi-final, I fall in love with them. I also feel that I was born as a Singaporean but korean by heart. Since young, I have love korean song, korean drama and korean food. One of the first korean drama I ever watched is ”Winter Sonata” which is also the producer of the show ”Love Rain” . And give me a choice over Macdonald, KFC or bimbap, I will definetly choose Bimbap. In fact, I am planning a trip after my army term end and go exploring in South Korea

If we were visiting you where you live for one day, where would you take us? Why are these places so significant?

Answer: There is many Place of Interests in Singapore. To me, MBS(Marina Bay Sand), there is casino there, beautiful girls and hunks there, great shopping centre. The Zoo. The night Safari which Happened to be the world first Night Safari and also the F1 pits. It is the place where the world first F1 night race took place!

Tell us a little about your life. What do you do full time and in your free time?

Answer: I am currently serving as a Soldier in the Singapore Army. I used to be in Singapore Armoured Infantry which is really very tough. But due to an injuries, I was posted to another Unit which is part of Singapore Artillery. In fact, It is a battalion that is steeped with history. One of the previous commanding officers of the Battalion is currently Singapore Prime Minister. As a clerk, I get to stay out, so when I come back home, I usually log in to the computer, facebook, SSF, and youtube. I love watching SNSD variety show and Running Man!
I also serve as a forum admin, chat admin and writer on powerchallenge.com( An online multi-player soccer gaming website) till I take a break from admin work just a few week ago. During my weekend, I will usually go and play street soccer with my friends.

What do you report on for your gaming website?

Answer: As a multi-player soccer gaming website, we tend to write up on the latest soccer view, the reason behind some update. There is a weekly recap which sum up the milestone in forum( I happened to be featured in this week recap for reaching 9000 non-spam posts), Interview with top/famous users, interview of admins and there are time where we share our real life experience and how it help us in real life. What kinds of viewpoints do users on the website you are an admin at have about Girls’ Generation?

Answer: There are a few different view of SNSD currently at the website where I served at an admin. There are some who said they are over-rated but there are few which Personally admired SNSD. There are some users who like Kpop and have their favourite group. One fellow admins of my is a admirer of 4 Minutes, and there is one who like SNSD just like me. However, currently the influence of SNSD there is not so big yet but I am hoping to change that soon

What's the most interesting thing about you and/or that has ever happened to you?

As I did not have not have a good memory, I will just recalled some stuffs that I went for recently. I recently attended an outfield training course in the army teaching me how to do operation manning in the event an outbreak of war occur. I have a great and wonderful time trying out my hands at the different skill that it required. Once, during my school time, I was specially selected to go to the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) for a short lesson. It was quite an eventful lesson. I have also been to the police coast Guard and K9 Dog Unit too.

For people who are first meeting you (like most of us), how would you describe yourself?

Answer: They will see a quiet person. Perhap someone like Kwang Soo of Running Man except the shorter version
But having said that, Don’t judge a book by its cover. I can actually be quite a clown and joker
Peoples have said that my appearance and personality is totally like Kang Gary which I myself agree.

Is there anything big in your life that you're working on? (This can be related to school, career, hobbies, family, friends, etc.)

Answer: I am currently Working on a few project which I can’t reveal. I have a strong leadership qualities in me. Since Young, I have always been chosen to be a leader. Being the class chairperson, Chair game master, heading a Open House project, Vice captain of my street soccer team. My officers in the army give me a nickname of Major New. My former Sergeant and Platoon Mates in Armour Infantry give me a nickname of Sergeant Major. I have actually wrote quite a few reply to the newspaper and army magazine and it been featured before. I also have plan to be the National coach of Singapore Soccer team and South Korea Soccer team one day.

What are your interests outside of Girls' Generation?

Answer: Reading. I love to read crime thriller. I am also a soccer player who support Manchester United and Pohang Steeler for club and South Korea for country. I am also an avid player of the game ”Pro Evolution Soccer”.

Why do you want to start a SONE soccer club?

Answer: Different soccer club have different version. I want my soccer club to be a club that is respected by fair play. However as a SONE soccer club, I will most likely be recruiting SONE into it. If you ask me, I am someone who does not care about losing or winning as we long as we play fairly and with happiness. And I believe Sone fits into my vision. There are alot of SONE who are humble and that what I want to see in a team. Having a SONE soccer club will also be great as there is no soccer club I believe that is created based on their admiration of SNSD. In fact, after I have served finish my term in the Army, I am planning to go back to study Sport coaching. And together with my friends who are in the sport and leisure management course in Republic Poly(Singapore), I hope to set up a SONE soccer club one day

How did you first become a fan of Girls' Generation?

Answer: Through the ITNW MV and the reality show ”GGTS”. The dance and tune of the song is catchy and add on to that, I have to said that I feel their passion for the career they have chosen.
GGTS show me how the girls always give in their very best for their fans. One example will be Jessica giving her all and fainting after her performance.

Who is your favorite member and why?

Answer: Yoona! It is love at first sight. She happened to be the first girl of SNSD whom I have set my eyes on. She is really very gorgerous and really talented. Peoples might said that she does not have the best vocal of the group but to me, I love her voice. Having said that, I also love the other eight members of the group

What is your favorite Girls' Generation song and MV and why?

Answer: Oh!, ITNW and The boys. For ” The boys and Oh”, it because of their chorography is excellent. I myself have a passion for dancing.
For ITNW, it because it is throught that MV which I discovered SNSD

What is your favorite Girls' Generation moment and why?

Answer: The moment where they linked their hands together for the song ”complete”. To me that define what SNSD stand for. Teamwork and the soshibond. Another moments will be them thanking us and bowing down to us everytime after their performance. It show to me their humblness and how they have never let success get into their heads.

How has Girls’ Generation impacted your life, in specific areas or even as a whole?

Answer: There was a time where I was at the darkest point of my life, and was thinking of sucide. It is throught them that I been given a reason to fight for my life and never giving up.

Just recently on Sica’s Birthday, I pushed myself to complete my route march even through I was limping badly and in pain. I pushed myself to the limits for anyone of the girls.

What do you like most about Soshified, and why? Any section in particular you’re attracted to?

Answer: The sense of community I feel here. The singapore thread in the forum is also a place where I will visit and spazzed together with my fellow SG sones

Is there anything else about you that you would like to add?

There will always be critic in the world that look down on SNSD but let just ignore them and instead give your energy in supporting the girls whatever they do. We might disagree with some of their decision but let us respect their decision and prove to the world that Sones are the best in the world and make the girls proud of us
